A Certificate of Analysis for a patch is usually one line: Pass.
Ours is two pages long, and four of those lines are numbers a buyer can hold us to: peel strength of at least 1.0 N per centimetre of width, holding slippage of no more than 2.5 mm, a die-cut window of 3.0 ± 0.5 cm, and five actives that add up to 235 mg per patch.
Then we noticed something while writing this up. Every one of those numbers is a decision rather than an accident — and every one of them is open for change on a private-label order. So this article does two things: it publishes the reference build in full, and it shows you precisely which parts we can move.

What one patch contains

Five components, 235 mg in total, as declared on the Certificate of Analysis:
- Lavender essential oil — 80 mg
- Magnesium glycinate — 60 mg
- 5-HTP — 50 mg
- Hops extract — 25 mg
- Rose essential oil — 20 mg
This is a starting point, not a fixed recipe. Every one of those five is open, and so is the ratio between them.
What you can change about the formula
- The ratio. Lavender at 80 mg and hops at 25 mg is one position on a very wide dial. If your brand wants a different balance, we re-specify the blend and re-issue the COA against your numbers.
- The active itself. Swap magnesium glycinate out, add a different mineral salt, or drop an active entirely.
- The aromatic profile. Change the essential oils, or keep our aromatic blend and change only what sits underneath it.
- Your own specification. If you already have a formula, a target dosage per patch or a target cost per patch, send it over. We build to it and the certificate is written against your build, not ours.
One thing worth knowing before you commission a custom formula: the Safety Data Sheet for our sample declares the aromatic fraction of the construction separately, as lavender, sandalwood and cedar oils. The COA and the SDS therefore describe two different parts of the same product. If your registration dossier needs both, ask us for the lot-specific set and we will issue them together.
How we test it: four release checks

How to read this table: the middle column is the limit, not the measurement. The certificate records a pass/fail against each limit; publishing the limit next to the result is what lets you compare suppliers instead of comparing adjectives.
Appearance. Visual inspection against a defined defect list — sticking, glue bleed-out, glue detachment, damage, burrs, imprecise die-cutting, contamination. A patch with a burr is a patch that catches on a sheet.
Specification. Base plate 7.5 × 11 cm; patch 3 × 3 cm with a ±0.5 cm tolerance.
Holding power. The patch is applied to a stainless steel plate and the slippage of its top end must not exceed 2.5 mm. This is the test that predicts what happens at hour six, when someone has turned over and the pillow has taken an interest.
Peel strength. The average force required to peel the patch, per 1 cm of width, must be at least 1.0 N. Below that, the patch lifts early; well above it, removal gets unpleasant. The acceptance window is a floor, not a target — we do not chase a higher number for its own sake.
The conclusion on the certificate is qualified for the items tested, against the national standard of the People’s Republic of China, signed by the inspector and the QC manager.
The dimensions your artwork has to fit

Two dimensions decide whether your artwork works, and they are worth settling before you send artwork:
- The base plate is 7.5 × 11 cm and carries 6 patches.
- Each patch is 3 × 3 cm nominal, with a ±0.5 cm die-cut tolerance — so a finished patch is acceptable between 2.5 cm and 3.5 cm.
If your artwork is a full-bleed print, build it to 2.5 × 2.5 cm and it will survive any patch in the tolerance window. If you need a larger patch, a smaller sheet or a different grid, say so and we will re-tool rather than crop your design.

Product images on this page are examples of current formats and print options. They are not final artwork, and the branding shown is not ours.
How a bag is built up

The standard pack is 6 patches per sheet and 5 sheets per bag — 30 patches per bag. Around it:
- Pouch — three-side-seal bag, 10 × 15 cm, with zipper
- Carton — 65 mm paper carton with front and back cover, side panels and adhesive joint
- Custom — your artwork, colour palette, SKU, barcode and count

The documents behind the numbers
- Certificate of Analysis — declared formulation per patch, appearance inspection, dimensions, holding power and peel strength, with a qualified conclusion for the items tested. Issued per production batch.
- Safety Data Sheet — Report No. HST20260414R01, dated 14 April 2026, issued by Shenzhen Huas testing and certification Co., Ltd. Prepared to UN GHS Version 7, EU CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 and Regulation (EU) 2020/878. The sample is classified as not a hazardous substance or mixture under CLP and contains no SVHC under REACH Articles 57–59 at the print date.
- IFRA Certificate of Conformity for the fragrance, against the 51st Amendment (published 30 June 2023). Available on request.
- Chemical inventory status for the fragrance components — all listed on the Australian AICS, China IECSC, New Zealand NZIoC, Philippines PICCS, Taiwan TCSI, US TSCA 8(b), EU EINECS/ELINCS/NLP and Canadian DSL inventories.

What you can change
Material and construction
Backing, adhesive system and release liner are specified per project. Tell us the wear time, the skin-contact target and how the patch should feel on removal, and we build the construction to it and confirm it against the same four release tests.
Formula and ratio
Everything in the declared list above — the components and the proportion between them — is specified per order, and the certificate is written against your build.
Print and pattern
Your logo or pattern can be printed on the patch surface as well as on the pack. Send artwork and we will confirm the print method against the backing you have chosen.
Shape and die-cut
The documented reference is a 3 × 3 cm patch with a ±0.5 cm tolerance. Round and other custom die-cut shapes are available on request. Shape changes are quoted against tooling, not against the base price.
Packaging
Sheet format, pouch, carton and print are all open — see the pack build-up above.

Product images are examples only. Colours, patterns, packaging and artwork shown are illustrative of what is possible, not a specification of what you will receive.
What we will not print on your box
We would rather lose a sentence than win a complaint:
- We do not claim the patch treats, prevents or cures any condition.
- We do not label it hypoallergenic or safe for every skin type. The SDS for the aromatic component carries H317 — may cause an allergic skin reaction, so we recommend a patch test before first use and we keep the allergen declaration in the documentation where your labelling team can use it.
- We do not support comparative claims such as “extra strength” unless you can substantiate them in your market. Tell us the claim you want and we will tell you what documentation we can put behind it.
And one more, which is really for you rather than for us: a patch delivering actives intended to have a systemic effect is generally not a cosmetic in the EU or the UK, and a transdermal delivery format is usually regulated as a drug in the United States. Classification depends on your formula and on the claims you make. We supply the manufacturing and safety documentation; the registration route is yours to confirm with your regulator or consultant.
What this data does not tell you
A certificate is a strong document, but it is not a promise about everything:
- The COA you receive covers the items tested above. It is not a clinical trial, and we do not have one.
- It records a pass against each limit. It does not publish the measured value behind the pass, so you cannot compute a margin from it alone — ask us for the underlying readings if you need them for your own QA file.
- The date and batch fields are completed per production lot, so the certificate you get is specific to the lot you receive.
- The fragrance documents we hold are the supplier’s, and the certificate of conformity we can share is the redacted customer-review version. Ask for the full set and we will send what the supplier permits us to send.
- A patch that passes every test on a bench in Quanzhou is still a product whose behaviour on skin depends on the wearer. We recommend a patch test.

Frequently asked questions
Is the sleep patch a cosmetic, a medical device, or something else? It depends on the formula and on the claims you make. A patch delivering actives intended for a systemic effect is generally not a cosmetic in the EU or the UK, and a transdermal delivery format is usually regulated as a drug in the United States. We supply the manufacturing and safety documentation; the classification is decided by the brand owner or importer with their regulator.
Can I change the formula and the ratio between the actives? Yes. The five components listed above are a reference build, not a fixed recipe. We can re-specify the blend, change the ratio between components, substitute an active, or build to a formula you supply. The Certificate of Analysis is then re-issued against your build.
Can I change the materials? Yes. Backing, adhesive system and release liner are specified per project. Tell us the wear time, the skin-contact target and how the patch should feel on removal, and we build the construction to it and confirm it against the same four release tests.
What documents come with production? A Certificate of Analysis covering the declared formulation, appearance, dimensions, holding power and peel strength, issued per production lot, plus the Safety Data Sheet. The IFRA certificate of conformity for the fragrance is available on request.
Can you print our logo on the patch itself? Yes, subject to the backing material you select. For full-bleed artwork, build to 2.5 x 2.5 cm so the design survives the ±0.5 cm die-cut tolerance. Printed sheets, plain colour sheets and custom shapes are all available.
What is the standard pack? 6 pieces per sheet, 5 sheets per bag, so 30 patches per bag, in a 10 x 15 cm three-side-seal pouch with zipper. A 65 mm paper carton is available as an outer option. Ask us for the current minimum order quantity and lead time for your specification.
