Nasal Strips vs Nasal Dilators: Brand Decision Guide

“Nasal strips” and “nasal dilators” are often used interchangeably, but they’re different products with different economics. If you’re a brand deciding what to stock, here’s how to think about it.

The Core Difference

FactorNasal StripsReusable Nasal Dilator
MechanismAdhesive band lifts the nasal valve openFlexible band + replaceable adhesive patch
UsageSingle-use, replace dailyBand is reusable; patch replaced daily
Price point~$0.15–0.40 per strip retail~$9–30 per kit retail

Margins and Revenue Models

  • Nasal strips win on repeat purchase: a customer who uses them nightly reorders every month. Lower basket, higher frequency.
  • Nasal dilator kits win on basket size: one kit sells for 10–20× a single strip box. Lower frequency, higher margin per order, and the patch refills create a second revenue stream.

Many brands do both: strips as the entry price-point SKU, the dilator kit as the premium upgrade. Cross-sell between the two raises average order value significantly.

Compliance Notes

Both are Class I medical devices in the EU under MDR 2017/745. What changes is the technical file:

  • Strips: standard adhesive + spring-band construction, well-trodden documentation.
  • Dilators: the reusable band adds materials considerations (silicone/TPE) and cleaning instructions for the end user — slightly more to document.

Ask any supplier for the certifications that apply before you commit.

Manufacturing Considerations

  • Strips are produced on high-speed die-cutting lines — HLK’s classic nasal strips are the workhorse SKU with factory pricing from ~$0.03/strip.
  • Dilator kits include the band, patches, a case and an illustrated manual — more components, more packaging complexity, but also more differentiation from commodity sellers.
  • MOQ: stock strips from 500 boxes; dilator kits typically need a bit more due to the multi-component kit — see our MOQ guide.

Which One Fits Your Brand?

  • Starting on Amazon with a tight budget → start with strips (low MOQ, fast validation, easy reorders).
  • Building a premium sleep or sports brand → lead with a dilator kit, add strips as the value SKU.
  • Pharmacy / retail channel → strips sell on frequency; kits sell on shelf appeal.

Not sure? Order samples of both and test with your target customers. Talk to us about sourcing both SKUs from one factory — you’ll save on freight and keep quality consistent.
