Launching a Nasal Strip Brand in Europe: 2026 Playbook

Europe is the most regulation-heavy and arguably the most rewarding market for nasal strip brands. Here’s the 2026 playbook we give EU brand owners and importers.

Step 1: Compliance Before Anything

Nasal strips are Class I medical devices under EU MDR 2017/745. Before you list or sell:

  • Technical file held by the brand owner (or an EU representative).
  • Declaration of Conformity — in your name, not just the factory’s.
  • UDI-DI assigned to your product and registered in EUDAMED.
  • Batch documentation (COA, MSDS, REACH) for every import.

Without these, customs and pharmacies will block you. The full breakdown is in our EU certifications guide.

Step 2: Packaging for the EU

  • Multi-language inserts: EU regulation effectively requires labeling in the market’s language — German, French, Italian, Spanish etc. Budget for translations and bilingual layouts.
  • English + local language on the box is the standard workable compromise for Class I devices.
  • CE mark + UDI on the label — not optional.

Step 3: Choose an EU-Ready Factory

An “EU-ready” factory is one that:

  1. Holds CE MDR (MDR-era, not legacy MDD) and can share the technical file structure.
  2. Provides batch COA/MSDS/REACH per shipment.
  3. Has handled EU imports before — ask for a reference shipment to a European port.
  4. Can produce multi-language packaging in-house or with their design partner.

That’s exactly what we do at HLK: CE MDR documentation, per-batch documents, and packaging for markets across Germany, the Netherlands, France and the Nordics. See our certificates and the OEM process.

Step 4: Pick Your Channel

ChannelEntry requirementsNotes
Amazon EU (DE/FR/IT/ES)VAT + compliance fileFastest validation, one listing per marketplace
Pharmacy chainsFormal onboarding, docsHighest trust, slower cycle, strong margins
Drugstores (dm, Rossmann, Kruidvat)Category buyer + complianceBest shelf placement per unit sold
D2C (Shopify)Own site + ad spendKeep the data, pay for traffic

Many brands launch Amazon DE/FR first (fastest), then use sales data to open pharmacy conversations.

Step 5: Budget for the Cycle

First order (custom packaging, 5,000 boxes) typically runs 6–10 weeks including sea freight. Plan for:

  • Tooling/artwork setup
  • Compliance documentation work
  • Samples and iteration (3–5 days per sample round)
  • Initial stock + safety stock

The MOQ guide has the numbers.
